If you only have one day in Rishikesh — perhaps on the way to or from Char Dham — this plan fits in the town’s essentials without feeling rushed, as long as you start reasonably early.

Morning: Triveni Ghat and Ram Jhula

Start at Triveni Ghat, Rishikesh’s main bathing ghat, then walk or taxi over to Ram Jhula. Cross the bridge and explore the temples and ashrams on either bank — this stretch is walkable and doesn’t need transport.

Midday: Laxman Jhula and lunch

Continue on to Laxman Jhula, the second suspension bridge, about 20-30 minutes further along the riverbank. The cafés around here overlooking the Ganga are a good spot for a relaxed lunch before the afternoon.

Afternoon: the Beatles Ashram

Visit the Beatles Ashram (Chaurasi Kutia), the abandoned meditation retreat the band stayed at in 1968 — now partly open to visitors, with murals and old buildings worth an hour or so to walk through.

Evening: the Ganga Aarti

Head back to Triveni Ghat or Parmarth Niketan for the evening Ganga Aarti — arrive 20-30 minutes before sunset to find a good spot as the crowd gathers. It’s the natural way to close out the day.

If you have a little more time

With even half a day more, consider swapping the afternoon for a trip to Neelkanth Mahadev instead, or see our 2-day itinerary for how to add a proper adventure activity.
