Char Dham
Best Car for Char Dham Yatra
Sedan, Innova or Tempo Traveller — how group size, luggage and 10-12 days of mountain driving should actually decide it.

- Comfort over 10-12 days
This is one of the most common questions we get before a Char Dham booking. Every option here can complete the full circuit — the real difference is comfort, luggage space and cost across 10-12 days of mountain driving, not capability.
Sedan (Dzire, Amaze, Aura)
Best for 2-4 people travelling with normal luggage — one bag each. Sedans are the most economical option per day and handle the paved sections of the route without issue. The trade-off is a firmer ride and less legroom on the longer mountain stretches, which matters more the longer the trip runs.
Innova
Best for families of 5-7 or two couples travelling together. The Innova takes noticeably more luggage than a sedan, has higher ground clearance for rougher patches of road, and gives elderly travellers or young children more room to move and easier entry and exit — which matters over 10-12 days more than it would on a short trip. Read our full sedan vs Innova comparison for more detail.
Tempo Traveller
For groups of 8 or more, a Tempo Traveller is usually the most practical and often the cheapest option per person, and it keeps everyone travelling together rather than split across two cars — useful for coordinating meal stops, temple visits and rest breaks as one group.
Our recommendation
For most families of 4-6 doing the full circuit, we recommend the Innova — the extra comfort tends to matter more over 10-12 days than the cost difference from a sedan. For smaller groups moving quickly, or a shorter Do Dham or Ek Dham trip, a sedan is a perfectly practical choice. Tell us your group size and dates and we’ll suggest a vehicle rather than have you guess.
